Department of Power Mechanical Engineering

History

The department was one of eight departments of the Army High School established following the restructuring from the Army Non-commissioned Officer School. To meet national defense needs, the school was further promoted as the Army Academy R.O.C. with the important goals of establishing fundamental and professional education to cultivate quality non-commissioned officers, and providing a good environment for students to study basic and advanced theoretical and professional electrical engineering technologies.

Following review, the school was restructured as a comprehensive high school from 1996 to 1998. The dean of the department was invited to assist with planning the internship factory, equipment, and curriculum, and implement a procurement plan for  related engineering (heavy) mechanical equipment, instruments, tools, and materials, as well as arrange the content of the curriculum. In August 1998, the first comprehensive high school students were admitted via exam. A total of 70 students were selected for the engineering mechanic program and were split into two classes. In June 2001, a total of 53 students graduated from the first engineering mechanic program, following which they were distributed to military training units and troops and factories for services. With the active promotion of former and present superintendents, the important task of restructuring the army college was completed and the department was officially named the Department of Electrical Engineering, providing a cradle for developing excellent non-commissioned officers.

Educational Goals:

  1. Develop the technology and abilities required for services and management and further establish the professional knowledge skills.
  2. Cultivate sound technical electrical machinery personnel.
  3. Abilities to operate, maintain, control, and inspect electrical machinery, and obtain qualifications as a Level B technician.
  4. Develop the interests and abilities of students for continuous learning, and generate a sense of career development and good life learning habits.
  5. Develop dedicated, responsible, and diligent students with sound morals.
  6. Develop the ability of students to have humanistic qualities with applied technology, innovation, and adaptation skills.

Educational Concept:

To meet military needs and future trends and developments, the department's main focus is to cultivate outstanding non-commissioned officers, obtain electrical engineering knowledge and expertise, train electrical engineering talent with  industrial operation and maintenance, factory management, quality control, examination, and patent technology skills and abilities. The department is the foundation of education in specialized engineering, ordnance engineering, infantry, artillery, and armor fields.

Core Competences

The foundational theories include basic courses such as Engineering Materials and Engineering Mechanics. Advanced design courses cover topics such as Power Plants and Electromechanics.
