Department of Civil Engineering

History

This first dean of the department was Hsieh, Gi-Shiu (1997~2001), followed by Chen, Wei-Wen (2001~2004) and Lai, Wei-Cheng (2004~2005).

The school was restructured as the Army Academy by order in August 2005. The name of the department changed to the Department of Civil Construction. Dr. Chiu, Chuan-Cheng was invited to become the dean of the Department of Civil Construction.

Dr. Tang, Chi-Wei was invited to serve as dean of the department in February 2010.

Dr. Chen, Wei-Wen served as dean of the department since August 2013.

Dr. Wang, Jing-Zun served as dean of the department since August 2016.

Dr. Chen, Wei-Wen served as dean of the department since August 2022.

Following the growth of the department, the department now comprises nine teachers and one technician. The department has complete equipment and stands out at the top of domestic civil construction educational departments.

Educational Goals

  1. Develop civil construction related knowledge and skills, humanistic qualities, personal relationships, independent thinking abilities, and teamwork and leadership skills, inspire innovative and macro-thinking, sustainable development, and the spirit of service.
  2. Allow students to engage in the planning, survey, mapping, design, construction, maintenance, and management of professional works to achieve the goal of "training for practice" of the military.

Educational Concept

  1. Civil construction ability

    1. Reinforce basic civil construction education and humanistic edification, develop independent thinking skills.
    2. Integrate computer training courses so students become familiar with computer drawing software operation and can acquire technician certificates.
    3. Acquire various basic certificates, encourage students to acquire chief-on-site, architectural drawing, computer-added architectural drawing, cadastral survey, and plumber and concrete technician certificates.
    4. Gain familiarization with various civil construction related experiments and hydroelectric project piping methods, and engage in analytical and design training.
    5. Integrate cross-field knowledge to cultivate both engineering and management skills 
  2. Building work capabilities

    1. Develop professional expression, special topic writing, effective timeline management and implementation abilities.
    2. Build the spirit or teamwork, learn about leadership of basic non-commissioned officers, and develop personal interaction and communication skills.
    3. Shape a good working attitude, and establish engineering ethics and high ethical standards.
    4. Guide graduates to transfer to the military and engage in related civil construction work to apply their learnings to their work.
  3. Inspire innovation abilities

    1. Develop sustainability concepts and enthusiasm for the military and society as a global citizen.
    2. Seize civil construction transformation opportunities and diversified development skills.
    3. Continuously understand social ecology and economic development trends.
